Catholic School Principalship, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

The Catholic School Principalship post-baccalaureate certificate provides the requisite training on the unique features of managing a Catholic school. This includes exploration of the various Church documents that explicitly guide the mission of Catholic education. The various traditional and alternative governance structures are explored. Candidates will explore how faith can inform the instructional and operational issues in a Catholic school.

Admission Requirements

Candidates for this graduate certificate must have the following:

  • Master's degree, preferably in education administration.  
  • Transcript(s) from all schools attended
  • One letter of recommendation, preferably from school pastor
  • Résumé
  • Professional goal statement

An alternative path for candidates may be for members of the clergy that has some experience in Catholic schools but have been called by the Church to serve in the role principal.  It is critical for candidates in this category to received the critical content offered in this program. These candidates will provide:

  • Transcript(s) from all schools attended
  • One letter of recommendation, preferably from their provincial or local ordinary
  • Résumé
  • Professional goal statement

In these isolated cases, a review team from the School of Education will be convened to review these applications.

  1. Identify and apply the knowledge about both traditional and nontraditional governance structures of Catholic schools
  2. Apply the various dimensions of budgeting in the various configurations of Catholic school governance
  3. Name and create the plans for professional and faith development of the Catholic school leader. 
  4. Explain management strategies for staff evaluation models as is applies in a Catholic school.
  5. Explore the various elements of faith dimensions as it applies to school leadership.

Courses and milestones designated as critical (marked with !) must be completed in the semester listed to ensure a timely graduation. Transfer credit may change the roadmap.
